Pressley Ridge Summer Autism Program

The Autism Summer Program helps children and teens with autism to develop skills and maintain progress on social, communication, behavioral, and academic goals in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties. The program offers two services: Extended School Year (ESY) and the Summer Therapeutic Activities Program (STAP). As part of ESY, we work with home schools to design services that meet the needs of our youth. Through the (STAP) program, personal behavioral and social goals will be set by working with treatment teams.

Camp WISP

The Watson Inclusive Summer Program (WISP) is an inclusive therapeutic summer camp program for children with autism and related disorders.
WISP is a model inclusive summer program that enables children with autism to be integrated successfully into typical summer camps with their peers. The program operates in multiple sites, providing children with services near their own neighborhoods. The program time and duration vary according to the camp schedule. Typically, a camp program lasts eight weeks, from mid June to early August, and runs from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The program emphasizes teaching social skills within a typical summer camp environment, using capable peers in naturalistic settings.

Camp STAT

A therapeutic summer camp program for adolescents with Asperger’s disorder/high functioning autism
The Summer Therapeutic Activities for Teens (STAT) program of The Watson Institute is specifically-designed for adolescents with Asperger’s disorder and high-functioning autism. The program focuses on the development of social competencies and includes both therapeutic and recreational components. Appropriate candidates need to have the ability to benefit from verbally based intervention methods.
STAT operates at The Watson Institute’s Sewickley, Sharpsburg, Upper St. Clair and Friendship (City of Pittsburgh) sites. Each program runs for a period of four weeks. This year, Camp STAT will hold two summer sessions. The duration and time frame of STAT are scaled back in comparison to our camp programs for younger children, in order to accommodate the wishes of adolescents who do not want their entire summer programmed.

ACCLAIM Program

Autism College and Community Life Acclimation and Intervention Model
The Autism College and Community Life Acclimation and Intervention Model (ACCLAIM) of The Watson Institute is specifically designed for college-bound teenagers with Asperger’s disorder and high-functioning autistic disorder.  The program focuses on the development of skills necessary to succeed at college and includes therapeutic, learning, and social components.  Many adolescents with high functioning ASD may have the cognitive ability to attend college but lack the social, organizational and daily living skills to be successful there.  The organization of college and college life can be quite complex.  Watson developed ACCLAIM to help adolescents get a “preview” of college prior to enrollment.  The program is intended to acclimate academically capable candidates to campus life, reducing the anxiety associated with a major life transition, and developing the social and organizational skills that are requisites for success in college.

UPMC – Summer Therapeutic Inclusion Program

The Summer Therapeutic Inclusion Program (summer camp) runs for eight weeks and accepts children between ages 4 and 12 with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disorders, and emotional or behavioral problems.
The summer camp program includes intensive treatment services that extend beyond those found in traditional summer camps and allow children to attend a mainstream camp with help from therapeutic support services.
